However, in recent months, China enforced a ban on the import of plastic materials and other recycled waste.
In 2016, more than 95 per cent of Ireland’s plastic had been sent there to be repurposed.
The change means that Ireland has had to review what is recyclable – with many of the old items that were allowed now off the recycling menu.

The list is the same whether you’re living in Dublin or Donegal, with Minister Denis Naughten saying: “Removing confusion will play a huge role in improving the quality of the material that goes in the recycle bin.
